Pre-contact America and its people and cultures were my obsession since I could remember myself, long before I knew what I wished or could do about it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This time around, Grazia Chiuri was inspired by art scholar Linda Nochlin, who penned an essay titled: Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists? In the piece-which was provided to each and every attendee at the Dior show-Nochlin brought up quite a few questions, not just about the lack of female creatives (“The fact of the matter is that there have been no supremely great women artists, as far as we know, although there have been many interesting and very good ones who remain insufficiently investigated or appreciated…”), but the need to be defensive upon the answer of the question (“The feminist’s first reaction is to swallow the bait, hook, line and sinker, and to attempt to answer the question as it is put: that is, to dig up examples of worthy or insufficiently appreciated women artists throughout history…”).ĭior’s take on modern feminist design. Each column has five entries, rows only one, so there are fifty-five cities in all. The matrix of eleven column themes and fifty-five subchapters (ten rows in chapters 1 and 9, five in all others) shows some interesting properties. The descriptions of the cities lie between these two sections. In each of the nine chapters, there is an opening section and a closing section, narrating dialogues between the Khan and Marco. The table below lists the cities in order of appearance, along with the group they belong to: He moves back and forth between the groups, while moving down the list, in a rigorous mathematical structure. And by the time he sat down, the meeting was over. When he was done, the most powerful person in the room-the CEO of General Mills-stood up to speak, clearly annoyed.
